Vacations these days are built into the contracts you make with employers. It used to be that vacations were luxuries workers and employers simply could not afford. However, now it is a ubiquitous concession given to workers in order to keep them happy. People take vacations for varying lengths of time and choose a wide range of locations and activities for their vacations. One of the most attractive options for many people is the resort.

A resort is hard to define, but it is essentially a location used for recreation and relaxation which people visit on their holidays or vacations. Resorts are highly thought of because many people choose to frequent resorts when they go on vacation and they find themselves able to relax and have fun. Resorts are generally considered to be all-inclusive—meaning that while you can leave the premises, you have no need to.

Some of the most popular resorts in the world essentially take over the town or city they are located in and become known as “resort towns”. Sochi in Russia, Barizo in Spain, Nice in France, Newport in Rhode Island, and Blackpool in England are just a few of the most well known resort towns. Spa towns, sea resorts, ski resorts, and mountain resorts are a few of the types of resorts that exist.

The modern ideal of the resort is a self-contained entertainment and vacation area. This means that everything the vacationer could want is right there in the resort. Whether it is drinks, food, entertainment, physical activities, or sleeping arrangements—a proper resort should be able to offer it to all vacationers. A hotel or some other sort of high quality lodging is generally central to the resort.

Probably the single most widely known resort in the world is the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. However, lesser known resorts exist all over the U.S. and indeed all over the world, though they are obviously more common in particular countries. Central America and the Caribbean are particularly popular resort regions.

It is commonly thought that resorts are modern luxuries, but the history of resorts stretches back for thousands of years. Humans have always wanted to get away from it all and go to a place where all of their relaxation and entertainment needs are met. Baiae, Italy, was a famous resort frequented by people over two-thousand years ago.

One of the best things about a resort is that you decide what you want to do. If you wake up and decide you just want to lay in your room all day and read a book, you are able to do that. On the other hand, if you want to get up bright and early and go enjoy a delicious breakfast—you can do that too. The options in any good resort are basically limitless, there is almost always more options for what to do than there is time to do it.
